ULALABS is a project born from the collaboration of Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona with Linköping University, University of Stavanger, and University of Twente. The project aims to create a theoretical and practical framework for distributed living laboratories (Lab of Labs) to tackle urban challenges and mitigate climate change. Running until the end of 2026 under the Erasmus+ Programme, ULALABS will establish a network of open innovation labs across four European universities, members of the European Consortium of Innovative Universities (ECIU). This initiative seeks to foster transformative innovation policies through collaborative learning communities and shared agendas.
In this session, we will share insights from our publication on the status quo, including a literature review and findings from our regional ecosystems on urban experimentation spaces, including living labs, testbeds, sandboxes and others. We will also present key findings from selected and analysed case studies of diverse urban experimentation spaces across different ECIU partner regions. Additionally, we will share the developed Future vision of a Lab of Labs, a translocal distributed living lab, and share the results of our research on learning communities and transformative learning, resulting in the baseline definition of the Mutual Learning Community we envision.
