In the 2024–2025 academic year, the European Documentation Centre (hereafter EDC) has, for the first time, received direct funding from the European Commission through three agreements signed with the UAB, allowing the delivery of 73 introductory talks on the European Union at secondary schools and adult education centres in the province of Barcelona.

In the spring 2024, the European Commission launched a call to strengthen the communication activities of Europe Direct Centres and European Documentation Centres. The UAB’s EDC applied and was one of the three Spanish centres selected (alongside those at the University of Zaragoza and the University of Granada).

The UAB EDC’s proposal offered one-hour introductory talks on the European Union at secondary schools and adult education centres across the province of Barcelona, delivered by UAB faculty members (14 from the Faculty of Law and 1 from the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology).

The project balance, carried out between September 30, 2024, and March 28, 2025, has been very positive. A total of 73 talks were delivered at 57 centres in 19 towns, reaching 3,973 students. Both teachers and secondary students responded very positively to the initiative and are already requesting it be repeated next year. UAB teachers were also highly satisfied to take part in this knowledge-sharing initiative. We hope that in the future the European Commission will launch new calls, which our EDC will certainly apply for.
