ININVALLÈS project fosters industry design and innovation in the Vallès region
For five years, the city councils of Sabadell, Barberà del Vallès, Sant Quirze del Vallès and Castellar del Vallès, the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Fundació de Disseny Tèxtil and the Fundació Parc Taulí worked jointly under the framework of the ININVALLÈS project with the aim of strengthening the design and innovation of industrial systems and thus improve the competitiveness of the region.

The aim of the project was to promote an entrepreneurial culture and the discovery of new technologies, new products and services in the field of innovation and design applied to industry, in order to achieve qualified professionals and a territory with reinforced competences in this field.
During the project, spaces and tools were designed and built for companies to specialise, innovate, devise new international business opportunities and increase productivity by improving efficiency in the use of resources.
The UAB created a competitive intelligence observatory, a platform of technologies and social trends for companies to inform themselves about the evolution of the sector and the competition. It also developed the Discoveries technology watch platform, which allows companies to optimise innovation.
The Fundació de Disseny Tèxtil (FUNDIT) built a leading centre for design and innovation for Catalonia, Spain and Europe as a space basically dedicated to the ideation, prototyping and testing of new products and services and open to any business or citizen initiative.
The Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí created the S-àvies/is meeting space, a laboratory of ideas for the improvement of active ageing and health of the elderly that involves companies, design professionals and users of products or services to define challenges and needs and create new products.
Also worth mentioning is the operation of the Sant Quirze Town Council, which focused on promoting a circular economy in industrial systems, with a series of numerous actions, including the proposal of an analysis of the industrial ecosystem, a study of good practices, a tool to assess the feasibility of solar installations in companies, and workshops on circularity in schools.
The total cost of the project was almost 3.3 M euros, with 1.6 M euros funded by a European grant and the co-financing of 25% of the project by the Barcelona Provincial Council. The Sabadell City Council was the coordinator of the project.
