Preventing violence against women at university, at the UAB Meeting for Gender Equality of the Vives Network of Universities

On 17 and 18 October, the UAB will host the Meeting on Gender Equality of the Vives Network of Unviersities, focused on prevention and repair when dealing with violence against women at university as the main theme of the meeting's 12th edition.

This year, the Gender Equality Meeting of the Vives Network of Universities, in its twelfth edition, focuses on prevention and reparation when addressing male violence at university. During the conference, the equality units of the universities that are part of this network will participate.

On Thursday 17 October, the inter-university meeting will begin at 12 noon in the Sala Teatre with a debate entitled: “The prevention of male violence as an axis of intervention: creating safe spaces at the university. Good practices at the university for non-repetition”. Montserrat Iglesias, director of the School of Prevention and Integral Security of the UAB; Noemí Canelles, member of the cooperative Fil a l'Agulla, and Míriam Comet, lecturer of the Department of Research Methods and Diagnosis in Education of the University of Barcelona (UB), will intervene. The debate will be moderated by the secretary general of the UAB, Esther Zapater.

At 3 p.m. there will be a conference entitled “Reparation as an axis in the intervention against harassment and male violence at the university”, by Tania Sordo, research lawyer at the UC3M and author of the Ministry for Equality guide Prácticas de reparación de violencias machistas. Análisis y propuestas. It will be presented by the director of the Centre for Legal Studies and Specialised Training and lecturer at the UAB, Encarna Bodelón.

At 5 p.m., at the Àgora building, a workshop on self-care in the management of violence against women and LGTBI-phobic violence will be held at the University, aimed primarily at professionals working in the field of violence care. It will be led by Núria Becerra, PhD in Social Psychology (UAB), psychologist specialised in male violence of the entity G360 Cartografies humanes i socials and lecturer at the UB.

On Friday 18 October, in the Board Room of the Rectorat building, the meeting of the Gender Equality Working Group of the Vives Network will take place, with the participation of the members of this group, belonging to the universities that are part of the Vives Network.

Last year, the 11th edition of this meeting took place at the UPC (Faculty of Nautical Sciences) with the theme “What are the gender challenges of the digital era in universities?".
