Faculty of Arts & Humanities inaugurates exhibition on the figure of Mário Soares
The Faculty of Arts & Humanities inaugurates the exhibition Mário Soares e Europa, a display of the contributions this Portuguese politician has made in the construction of Europe.
This year, Portugal celebrates the centenary of the birth of Soares (1924-2017), one of the most relevant political and intellectual figures in the country's recent history. He played an outstanding role in the process of democratic construction in Portugal for his anti-fascist combat, for his action during the Carnation Revolution and for his constant Europeanism. The exhibition focuses on his fundamental contribution to strengthen the project of constructing Europe from an approach of justice and solidarity among peoples.
The exhibition, which also aims to contribute to the promotion of Portuguese language and culture, was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology with the Mário Soares e Maria Barroso Foundation, the Government Delegation in Portugal, the Camões Institute and the José Saramago Chair.
The exhibition's inauguration was attended by Vice-Rector for Culture and Language Policy Laura Santamaria; Vice-Rector for International Relations Òscar Jané; Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities, Margarita Freixas; Dean of the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, Olga Torres; Secretary General of the Department of European Union and External Action of the Catalan Government, Lorena Elvira Ayuso; and Executive Director of the Mário Soares and Maria Barroso Foundation, Filipe Guimarães da Silva.
