The course analysing implications of nanotechnology in society begins

From May 27 to June 19 the first edition of Nanotechnology Innovation will be carried out in the Faculty of Sciences, a course that introduces participants to key concepts in nanotechnology, fused with principles of innovation, business creation, entrepreneurship, intellectual property and, in general, the global economic environment.

Nanotechnology Innovation 2014 is a programme organised by the UAB and the Barcelona Institute of Materials Science (ICMAB - CSIC), with the University of Texas. It also has the support of the UAB Research Park, the Barcelona Nanotechnology Cluster - Bellaterra (BNC - b), the Catalan Institute for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), and with the momentum of the UAB Campus of International Excellence.

In this course experts from different areas, both researchers from the UAB-CIE Sphere and innovative business and industry leaders, propose the challenge of reflecting on the economic, environmental and social implications of nanotechnology, especially considering recent developments and applications in the fields of information technologies, environmental sensors, energy, sustainability and medicine.

The programme is based on creating projects by international student teams. Every week the teams are required to present a proposal and design a solution to a global and/or social challenge, using nanotechnology as a main resource. The teams present their proposals at the end of the week, and grades will be based on class participation, collaboration and quality of submissions.

The course consists of 100 hours of training in onsite modality and is taught in English.
