This permanent training master's degree develops the study of housing integrated into the urban planning of cities from a transdisciplinary perspective of urban and rural habitat, in connection with the guarantee of the right to housing and, more specifically, social housing, with contents and teaching staff who collaborate transversally, providing coordinated and complementary knowledge from perspectives such as architecture, legal, economic, sociological or political, among others. Given that housing, urban planning and cities pose “wicked” problems, this master's degree offers the only possible perspective to fully train and be in a position to successfully face the complex challenges posed in reality.
Special emphasis is placed on the qualities and diversity of spaces and types of housing, and those disciplines that affect the quality of daily life and, more specifically, residential perception and psychology are analyzed. It aims to define housing property and analyze the functioning of the housing market, considering its actors, objectives and results. Identifies the main regulations that apply to the housing market, using European and national examples in terms of operation and regulation. It also considers the characteristics of the main trajectories of housing systems in Europe, deepening the knowledge of European social housing models and analyzing the role of housing market profitability: risks and solutions. From this analysis of the market and its bankruptcies, we move on to analyze public intervention, studying good governance, good government and good administration and corruption in the field of housing, urban planning and cities, making a analysis of the history of public housing policies, with a comparative perspective and the role of public-private collaboration, including the role of social participation and the third sector.
Simultaneously, we want to deepen the concept of environmental sustainability within the framework of international agreements and green public policies. In this context, the impact of the construction of homes and residential complexes on the environment and ecosystems and the use of sustainable materials and intelligent technologies and functionalities are analyzed. Likewise, the impact of energy poverty on housing and also the structural sustainability of buildings is analyzed.
