Data Protection Officer

In compliance with Regualtion (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such dataEurope's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UAB has designated a data protection officer (DPO).

The data protection officer's main duties are the following:
a. To inform and advise the controller or the processor, and all UAB staff and employees who carry out processing, of their obligations under the GDPR and all other data protection regulations.
b. To monitor compliance with the GDPR and other data protection provisions, and with additional internal data protection policies at the UAB, which includes the assignment of responsibilities, awareness-raising and providing training to staff involved in processing operations, and auditing.
c. To provide advice when requested as regards the data protection impact assessment and monitor its performance pursuant to Article 35 GDPR.
d. To cooperate with the supervisory authority (Autoritat Catalana de Protecció de Dades).
e. To act as the contact point for the supervisory authority on issues relating to processing, including the prior consultation referred to in Article 36, and to consult, where appropriate, with regard to any other matter.

The university, as a controller or as a processor, shall ensure that the data protection officer is involved, properly and in a timely manner, in all issues which relate to the protection of personal data. So, UAB will provide the data protection officer the resources necessary to carry out those tasks and access to personal data and processing operations.

It is important to note the requirement to contact the data protection officer (proteccio.dades@uab.cat) whenever a new project is started, new software is designed, or a purchase or proposal is made to process personal data, whether in electronic or paper format, in order to ascertain the formalities and documents needed for this purpose under the GDPR and all other data protection regulations.
