Admission Official Master's Degree in Research in Education

Access

Access to this master's degree is open to holders of an official bachelor's degree from a Spanish university or from another higher education institution within or outside the European Higher Education Area, provided this gives access to postgraduate studies in the country of issue.

Admission requirements

The following may gain admission to the master’s degree:

  1. Graduates in Education, holders of a diploma or bachelor’s degree in Social Education, graduates in Educational Psychology, graduates in Primary Education, graduates in Early Childhood Education and teachers of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Foreign Languages, Music, Physical Education and Special Education (group 1).
  2. The following may also gain admission to the master’s degree (group 2): 

a) Graduates in subjects from the branch of knowledge of Social and Legal Sciences and Arts and Humanities not mentioned in the previous section, in the following specialisations:

  • Curriculum and Innovation Processes in Education (E1), Organisation, Management and Transformation of Education Institutions (E2), Inequalities, Socio-Educational Research and Transformation (E3), Research and Innovation in Teaching of Language and Literature (E4), Research and Innovation in Teaching of Social Science (E5), Art, Body and Movement (E6).

b) Graduates in subjects from the branch of knowledge of Science; Health Science and Engineering and Architecture in the following specialisations:

  • Curriculum and Innovation Processes in Education (E1), Organisation, management and transformation of education institutions (E2), Inequalities, Socio-Educational Research and Transformation (E3), Research on innovation in scientific education and mathematical education (E7).

The master’s degree is also open to students who hold qualifications from other countries equivalent to any of the above, when they meet the admission requirements established in higher education institutions.

Foreign students from non-Spanish-speaking countries must demonstrate proficiency in Spanish of at least C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Council, with the certificate from the Cervantes Institute. The committee may request an interview with the candidate to verify their language proficiency.

  1. Interest in the master’s degree will also be verified with a letter of motivation.

The admission procedure consists of two phases: 1: Pre-enrolment and verification that the admission requirements are met, 2: The master’s committee, made up of the coordinator of the master’s degree and the coordinators of the specialisations, selects the students.

Selection criteria

If the number of applicants exceeds the number of places available, places will be awarded in accordance with the following criteria.

1. Relevant training (30 points)

  • Group 1: 30 points
  • Group 2: 15 points

2. Average grade of the academic record (30 points)

  • Average from 8.5-10 (30 points)
  • Average from 7-8.5 (15 points)
  • Average lower than 7 (0 points)

3. Proven professional experience (30 points)

  • Experience of 1 or more year as a teacher or educator (30 points)
  • Experience of between 6 months and 1 year as a teacher or educator (15 points)
  • No experience (0 points)

4. Letter of motivation (10 points)

  • Letter which shows knowledge of what research in education is, and which indicates the impact of the master’s degree on their future career (10 points)
  • Letter which shows scarce knowledge of research in education, and which does not express the impact on their career (0 points)
