Admission Official Master's Degree in Global East Asian Studies

Access to this master's degree is open to holders of an official bachelor's degree from a Spanish university or from another higher education institution within or outside the European Higher Education Area, provided this gives access to postgraduate studies in the country of issue.Admission requirements
The master’s degree is intended for people with prior studies in the field of the Humanities and Social Science interested both in understanding the role that East Asia plays in the current globalisation process and in knowing and being able to interpret the social, cultural, political, economic and environmental transformations that its global integration entails. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the master’s degree, other profiles will also be considered in accordance with their interest, training and professional experience in the area, as detailed below:
1. Admission to the master’s degree is open to graduates with qualifications in the Humanities and Social Science, such as for example East Asian Studies, Anthropology, Communication Science, Economics, Politics, Law, Philology, Philosophy, Geography, History of Art, History, Humanities, International Relations, Sociology, Translation and Interpreting, or equivalent qualifications. In this case it will not be necessary to take training supplements (Group 1).
2. Admission to the master’s degree is also open to graduates with any other qualification who demonstrate at least one year’s professional experience in the field of East Asian Studies, Politics and International Relations, Economics and International Trade, Consulting, Cultural Management and Tourism, Communication and the Cultural and Creative Industries, Geography and the Environment. The need to take training supplements will be assessed in this case (Group 2).
3. Finally, admission to the master’s degree is open to graduates with any other qualification without the professional experience detailed in point 2. In this case it will be necessary to take training supplements (Group 3).
All students must meet the following language requirements:
- Spanish: mother tongue or level equivalent to C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Council (for foreign students).
- English: mother tongue or level equivalent to B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Council.
Selection criteria
If the number of applicants exceeds the number of places available, places will be awarded in accordance with the following criteria:
a) Academic record (up to 60 points). In accordance with the specific admission requirements, the qualification scale is governed by the following weighting:

b) Professional experience (Curriculum Vitae) (up to 20 points). Special consideration will be given to the following aspects:
b.1) Work experience in national or international companies, institutions or organisations whose activity is focused in East Asia.
b.2) Professional internship in national or international companies, institutions or organisations whose activity is focused in East Asia.
b.3) Professional stays in countries of East Asia.
c) Letter of motivation (up to 15 points).
The candidates’ interest in East Asia from a linguistic, sociocultural and political-economic viewpoint will be highly valued. If considered necessary, a personal interview will be held.
d) English level above B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages of the European Council (5 points).
Complementary training
Students may need to take training supplements (maximum 12 ECTS credits). It will be possible to enrol on them at the same time as the subjects of the master’s degree study plan in accordance with their prior training and at the proposal of the coordinator of the qualification. They must be taken from among the following subjects of the Bachelor’s Degree in East Asian Studies:
- Applied Economics of East Asia (6 ECTS credits)
- East Asian International Relations (6 ECTS credits)
- Business and Domestic and International Markets in East Asia (6 ECTS credits)
- Migration and Diasporas of East Asia (6 ECTS credits)
- Advanced Issues in East Asian Art and Popular Culture (6 ECTS credits)
- Gender, Literature and Society in East Asia (6 ECTS credits)
- Ethnic Diversity of East Asia (6 ECTS credits)
