University Master's Degree in Terrestrial Ecology and Biodiversity Management

Ecosystems and their biodiversity can only be managed and preserved when they can be adequately measured and interpreted. Would you like to form part of this challenge?

Are you interested in terrestrial ecology? Would you like to work in the management of biodiversity? The master's degree in Terrestrial Ecology and Biodiversity Management will allow you to disover the processes involved in the functioning of terrestrial ecosystems, how their future deterioration can be mitigated within a context of global environmental change, and discover the management and conservation of biological natural resources (flora and fauna).

The master's degree is divided into two specialisations: Terrestrial Ecology and Management and Diversity of Fauna and Flora, with common subjects such as methodological tools (modelling, statistics and geographical information systems). The Terrestrial Ecology specialisation is complemented with modules in research preparation, design of experiments and measuring techniques, while Management and Diversity of Fauna and Flora offers modules in management and applications for animal diversity and the evolution and analysis of landscapes. Both specialisations conclude with a master's dissertation, which can be carried out under an international mobility programme.

Career options

Once you have completed the master's degree you will be able to work in the following areas:

1. Researchers working in the field of ecology, environmental biology and environmental studies in universities or research centres in the commercial sector (in industry, phytosanitary, zoosanitary or food and agriculture agencies).

2. Experts working in the management of protected areas and biological resources in public administration, environmental departments in large companies, or in media companies, companies that carry out environmental studies or are involved in the phytosanitary, zoosanitary or food and agriculture sectors.

The latest survey on employment opportunities indicates that 80% of students who have taken this master's degree have a job that is related to the degree contents one year after completing it.
