V Jornades RUIA

Jordi Prat, the director of the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS), joined the 5th RUIA Conference (Network of Universities for Children and Adolescents) on child poverty in Torrevella, Valencia.

22/04/2024

Titled "Child Poverty in Spain: A Discussion," the event brought together experts, professors, and researchers from universities within the network, along with representatives from various social organisations, including the FAS, to reflect on and debate the social scourge of child poverty.

At the conference, Jordi Prat took part as a panellist in the roundtable discussion "The Involvement of Universities Against Child Poverty". He explained the successful model of the Campus Ítaca, which aims to promote equal opportunities in the transition between educational levels and the continuity of compulsory education with greater guarantees of success for children and young people from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds. It also aims to ensure that students at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) become active, critical citizens and agents of social change, while bringing the university closer to the community (Hub30), especially in disadvantaged areas.

During his speech, Prat reviewed the history of the programme, which is celebrating its twenty-first edition this year. He also explained the programme's equity measures and presented data on participation and its social impact. Finally, he outlined the future challenges for the Ítaca Campus to continue fulfilling its pedagogical and educational objectives, conclusions drawn from the Impact Assessment Report of the Campus Ítaca, carried out by the Atlas Group and the Fundació Autònoma Solidària (FAS) and presented last November.
