Validated Bachelor's Degrees
Degrees are intended to facilitate students’ attainment of a general training directed towards preparation for carrying out professional activities. The official qualification obtained on finalising these studies is that of graduate in T awarded by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, in which T is the title of the degree.
Admission to official degree studies requires having successfully completed upper secondary-school education and having passed the university-entrance examinations (PAU). Holders of diplomas in CFGS (Higher-Level Training Stages) and candidates having passed the special examinations for applicants aged over 25 and over 45 can also gain admission to degree study. Candidates aged over 40 with no formal academic qualifications permitting university admission may nevertheless request application through recognition and accreditation of work and professional experience.
Credits and structure of the study programme
In order to get the bachelor degree diploma, students have to complete 180 or 240 credits (except for the cases determined by the European guidelines) distributed in three/four academic years of 60 credits each one. These credits cover all the training aspects, both theoretical and practical: basic subjects in the branch of knowledge of the degree, obligatory and optional subjects, external placements, monitored work, seminars, etc. All bachelor degrees conclude with a degree-final project.
Bachelor degrees are related to one of the five following branches of knowledge:
- Arts and Humanities
- Science
- Health Science
- Social Sciences and Law
- Engineering and Architecture
The UAB model
The UAB model for bachelor studies is intended to facilitate mobility among other bachelor degrees of the same branch of knowledge during the first years of the degree, as well as to facilitate interdisicplinarity and internationalisation during its final years. Undergraduate study programmes can include Mencions (Majors) that are specialised training itineraries in the degree field.
Moreover, students can incorporate to their academic report the floowing activities, even if these activities are not part of their study programme:
- Campus Itineraries called "minor" in an academic field different from the one of their degree. Minors complement students' training and help them to create a personalised curriculum. In order to get a minor it is necessary to fulfil a minimum of 30 ECTS credits; the minor is included in the European diploma supplement.
- Study periods in other Spanish or European universities.
- Recognition of language courses, up to a maximum of 8 credits.
- Recognition of participation in cultural, sports, solidarity and cooperation activities, up to a maximum of 6 credits.
